Abu Dhabi for Visitors
The capital of the United Arab Emirates and by far the largest Emirate and most wealthy, Abu Dhabi still retains a more subdued presence than its sister Emirate Dubai. A home to a vast number of workers from around the world and a welcoming number of locals Abu Dhabi offers some of the finest International cuisine on the planet, including some of the best Lebanese, Pakistani, Indian and Gulf food you can find anywhere in the world. Add to that a clean and safe city in pleasant surroundings and you have a recipe for one of the most sought after places to live and work in the world. In addition, Abu Dhabi is fast becoming the cultural center of the Middle East and houses some of the world's finest museums and universities including branches of the Sorbonne and NYU. While not on a regular tourist itinerary nor necessarily a tourist destination in its own right Abu Dhabi does deserve at least a couple of days if you are spending time traveling in the Emirates. It boasts a Gulf-front walkway known as the Corniche which is a great place to stroll at dusk, several shopping malls worth stopping in at, some of the best shawarma in the world, a newly constructed island featuring shops and restaurants and several top notch hotels including the Emirates Palace.
