Dubai-Paradise on Earth, pg. 3

by Bina Khiani

Although Sheikh Rashid paved the way for the modern city that we now see, it is his sons who made his visions and dreams come true .They followed in their father’s footsteps and in a short span of 20 years metamorphosed Dubai from a tranquil Bedouin township to a magnificent city which is known as “The City of Gold.”  The story of Dubai is a rags-to-riches tale. Although the Oil revenues in Dubai alone are not substantial to sustain its economical growth, Dubai has grown, flourished and continues to do so; it has blossomed into a “Paradise City”.

The key to Dubai’s success cannot be attributed entirely to Oil but is the fruition of the visionary dreams of its benevolent rulers. Entrepreneurs, traders, businessmen and corporate houses have been lured by the magnificent infrastructure provided to them. Enormous sea-ports, modern airports, free trade zones and excellent telecommunications in combination with the tax –free status, the security and safety, the economic freedom, the brilliant ideas, the financial centers and technology hubs have made Dubai extremely conducive for re-export and trading activities and today it is the most vibrant, sought after city in the world.
