Dubai-Paradise on Earth, pg. 4
by Bina Khiani
Lately when Sheikh Mohammed announced the creation of two man-made islands, in the shape of palm trees and liberalization of land laws permitting expatriates to own freehold property, he knew this would lead to a huge influx of people wanting to invest and participate in the rapid growth and prosperity of this beautiful city. The planning of the city's rulers has been truly astounding. More beaches are needed? Build vast artificial islands. Need tourism? The world's richest horse race, million-dollar lotteries, international tennis and golf tournaments, a month-long shopping festival and the Dubai Air show will ensure that. Need landmarks to symbolize Dubai? Build the tallest seven-star hotel in the world. Ever heard of the eighth wonder of the world? Well, the two Palm islands are going to be exactly that. Each and every single project of Dubai has been breathtakingly spectacular and far fetched but all have been outstanding ,unique and successful. The city of Dubai has changed very, very rapidly in the last decade. The Marina project and the Jumeira Beach residences at Jebel Ali will consist of more than one hundred sky-scrapers. Jumeirah Islands, adjacent to the golf course which seemed an impossible project ,shortly will be nearing completion. The mega down-town project “Burj Dubai” will consist of the world’s tallest tower surrounded by massive tropical gardens spread out on hectares of adjacent desert. The height of the forthcoming tower to be built in the middle of the city has been a closely guarded secret -no other country is allowed to steal the limelight from Dubai !
