Try these basic Arabic phrases which will help you get around town, and make some new friends too!

 

How many Kilometers? - Kam Kilo-meter?

Where? - Wain? (or "Ayna")

Airport - Al-Mattar

Bus Station - Ma-hatat Al-Bes

Train Station - Ma-hatat Al-Kitare

Car - Sayara

Taxi - (most people will understand "Taxi") - Ijrah

This - Hatha

Here - Huna

There - Hunak

Stop - Bess

Left - Ya-sar

Right - Yameen

Straight - Dirja (or Sitha in the Gulf)

Fast, Quickly - Bi-surrah (min fath-lick - please)

Slowly - Shwaya

Bank - Al-Bunk

Market (traditional) - Al-Sook

Street - Sharia

Mosque - Al-Mass-jed

Museum - Al-Mat-haff

Pharmacy - Al-Say-dal-eeya

Police - Al-Shurta
