Sights around
Nicosia

Nicosia offers much to see and browse
for the casual visitor, and a great tourist zone in the old part of
the city, that gets away with not being too "touristy" and
yet quite folkloric in its scope.
The city is divided, of course, and
most of the main visiting areas center near the "Green Line"
where the UN patrols. The walls of the city date back to the 1500s and
the city itself is much older, making it the oldest occupied capital
in the Mediterranean.
While it is a very modern city replete
with an industriously working population and traffic, Nicosia does offer
visitors the chance to get out, mingle with the natives, or just make
new friends in the tourist areas.
Travel to the Turkish occupied area
isn't recommended, but is possible. Check with your local embassy or
consulate before trying to cross the border.
Check out these places in Cypriot Nicosia
that we've chosen for you to visit:
The
Old Walls and Gates of the City
This area of Nicosia is definitely the most interesting and historically
charged of the city, perhaps the country. Walking around the walls you
can get a strong sense of the city's majestic past, and troubled present.
Eleftheria
Square & Laiki Yitonia
The main meeting area for Cypriots and the pedestrian tourism zone sequestered
around ancient buildings with wide open squares, shops, and lazy cafes
and pubs.
