Cyprus gives Kazanti Operators the Bird
Cyprus is cracking down on its homegrown kazanti street game and their prizes. Kazanti is a Cypriot pinball game you play on the street. If you win you can get some prizes like a caged live bird. Government officials have called to end the practice of giving away live birds as prizes. One quote from the article succinctly defines what we all are thinking: "Okay, you have me in a cage. But don't make me into a game prize."

UAE to companies: Give'em a break!
The forecast for Abu Dhabi this week calls for 100-107 degree temperatures. No wonder the UAE has asked companies to give their workers breaks between noonish and 4:30pm. It's not that much cooler in the shade though…

Tehran gets Arty
For the first time since the Iranian revolution hundreds of European and Western paintings from the modern period (beginning of the 1900s) are being unveiled in a showcase at Tehran's Museum of Contemporary Art. The collection is regarded as one of the most important ones outside of Europe and the US and has paintings by Warhol, Magrite, Van Gogh, Dali, and many others. Check it out while you can!

My Falcon is Faster than Yours
The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition, scheduled for Sept. 12-16, includes a large number of falconers and falconry related exhibitions and companies. A falcon beauty contest will be held to see who has the best looking bird. Falconry is a well-practiced sport in the Middle East, especially in the Gulf, and dates back thousands of years.
