Getting to Syria from the US

mosque

(damascus bus)

From the US expect to pay somewhere around $1700 - 2300 for a round trip ticket to Syria.

I checked expedia all the time, signed up for all kinds of cheaptix websites and never found anything below $2000 until I actually called Emirates Air's NY office and found a ticket for $1800 from Los Angeles. This was before Emirates flew direct to Dubai from LAX so I was going like this: LAX - NYC - Dubai - Damascus (and back from Damascus - Dubai - Houston - LAX).

The plus part is that on the way back I stayed a couple of days in the UAE and enjoyed some a/c and shawarmas.

I also found a comparable flight on Aeroflot Russian Airlines for about the same price $1700 r/t. This was a more direct flight as it went from LAX to Moscow and then Moscow to Damascus but I was sketched out about the potential for some mishap to happen while on a layover in Moscow. I'd rather be in Dubai I think.

So my flight there goes from LAX - JFK over night and then JFK - Dubai and then Dubai to Damascus.

On the way back it goes from DAM - Dubai and then Dubai - Houston and Houston to LAX.

The airlines have deals with other airlines to fill spaces on empty flights so my domestic flights are on both United and Continental and because I bought it as a package it's much lower than just paying for a r/t to NY and then another trip from NY to DAM.

Also try searching Kayak.com but like I said the best deal I found was by calling Emirates Air direct so maybe try that also.
