Other Amenities:

Kitchen open 24/7 for your use.  No communal food but there are communal pots, pans, silverware, glasses, kettles, a refrigerator/freezer, etc. to use.

Breakfast:  for a daily fee you can have a great Arabic breakfast every morning including the staples of olives, za’atar, bread, cheese, tea, etc.

a still life of a late evening at the hostel

Maid Service:  the place is very clean and the common areas are cleaned every day.  Your rooms can be cleaned or not as you wish.

Laundry:  there is a washing machine in the kitchen that you can use once a week.  You can hang your clothes on the roof.  The maid sometimes hangs them and you can tip her a little to do so.

Tours:  the staff are up on all the major tours throughout Syria and know the best ways you can do anything.  They are more than helpful.  If you want they can drive you to wherever you’d like to go (for a fee!) and take you back, etc.  They have several hostel trips to places of interest as well.

Common Area:  there is a common area with a TV with satellite.  Several couches and chairs and a few dining tables.  A retractable cloth roof is pulled back during nice weather.

There is also a sitting area on the roof where you can hang out at night.

Pets wandering around the common area include a few turtles, a rabbit or two and a cat.  Be careful where you step!

Airport pickup:  they will pick you up at the Damascus airport (with a sign) and take you to the hostel and will take you back to the airport as well.  Check their website for the current charge for this, it seems a bit pricy but the airport is out of town and if you don’t speak Arabic finding and getting on either a very crowded bus or an expensive airport taxi is a hassle, these guys take care of everything for you which was a relief for me in any case. (Five weeks later when I left I took the bus to the airport for much much less but it was only after I was very used to being in country that I could do this with any authority).
